Dead, silent, and fifteen years out of date: an IDE Barracuda crossed back over the technology gap

What changes when the patient is fifteen-plus years old
Three things, and all of them favoured him. Parts: a modern drive's donor board comes from a catalogue; a mid-2000s board comes from a stockroom and a trade network built over years of exactly these jobs — the boards exist, but sourcing them is part of the service, and a matching-era PCB was pulled for this drive the way a classic-car garage pulls a part off the shelf marked by memory.
